Riverstars Performing Arts
RiverStars Performing Arts cultivates youth voice and power through dance and theatre to galvanize community action.
Since 2012, RiverStars has been offering valley youth and families meaningful social justice arts education through free weekly classes available to public, private and homeschooled youth. In the isolated and generationally impoverished Illinois Valley, RiverStars provides a safe space for diversity, opportunities for connection, risk taking and collaboration, and most importantly, a way for youth to express themselves nonviolently while tending their emotional and physical health.
The program has grown to encompass not just dance and theatre, but also a summer-long sustainable agriculture program, with the RiverStars becoming Cultivate Kids at the Cave Junction Farmers’ Market every Friday. And as The Motherline expands our work with our PATHs projects, we work to include the RiverStars in our environmental projects, recognizing that we’ll need our next generation on board if we’re to make real, lasting change.
RiverStars classes are every Friday, September-April, at the Takilma Community Building (Dome School). Classes begin on Friday, September 19, 2025, so register NOW to reserve your spot!
We are beyond welcoming and can’t wait to have you join us! Please feel free to come to class to try it out; even if you’ve never danced before, our community prioritizes growth and an encouraging atmosphere for everyone involved! 2025-2026 Class Schedule: Every Friday
Art Stars: 1:30-2:30pm The Art Stars are for our most motivated, committed, and experienced performers. By invitation only! Art Stars are expected to attend Art Stars, Art Novas, EverStars, and Planet Dance – the whole day of classes.
EverStars: 2:30-4:00pm This is our class for young artists and dancers. This class is targeted towards beginning dancers from the ages of 6-10. This class not only teaches dance and theater, but also the discipline of listening, learning, and growing together!
Art Novas: 4:00-5:30pm This is our class for those who are truly honing their skills as artist and performer! This class requires at least one year as an EverStar. The target age range for this class is 10-18. All Art Novas attend and (help out in) the EverStars class as well! Not only does this class focus on dance and working together to create choreography, but it also enhances skills as an actor and performer.
